Between the 21st and 23rd of November 2003, the 1st CHAT conference took place in Bristol. In 3-5 November 2023, the Department of History-Archaeology and the Museum of Science and Technology at the University of Patras, Greece are hosting a three-day conference to mark the 20th anniversary since the establishment of the Contemporary and Historical Archaeology in Theory Group.
This is an opportunity for old and new CΗATters to meet, to talk about what CHAT has achieved so far, and to creatively consider what lies ahead. So, in celebration of CHAT’s legacy, we invite contributions and sessions in all formats (e.g. traditional papers, themed walks, films or artistic interventions, posters etc.). We welcome submissions from senior and junior researchers/scholars and professionals, as well as graduate/doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers. The conference is organized around the following axes:
- Α historiography of contemporary and historical archaeological research
- Best practices
- New developments in theory and method
- Ethical considerations
- Historical and contemporary archaeology in the Mediterranean
The conference will take place at the University of Patras, Rio Campus. The working language of the conference is English, but papers in Greek are also welcome. Those presenting in Greek are kindly asked to prepare PowerPoint slides or handouts in English.
We look forward to celebrating with you in Patras this November
